Lida Castle is an outstanding monument of defensive art of the 14-15th centuries. In another way it is called Gedimin's Castle and rises sternly over Lida, reminding all visitors of the glorious heroic past of the Belarusian land. Lida Castle was laid as a defensive outpost on the way of the Crusaders under the Grand Duke of Lithuania Gedimine in 1323. It was built on a loose sandy hill, made of bricks and rubble stone, in the form of a non-regular quadrangle. The building was surrounded by marshy banks of the Kamenka and Lydia rivers.
